Original watercolor painting of Philadelphia market scene by renowned 20th and 21st century African American watercolorist Howard N. Watson (1929-2022). Watson was trained in Philadelphia and adopted a signature impressionistic and brightly colored style to watercolors - often capturing scenes, landscapes and people in Philly. He is known as a commercial painter with several commissions from major corporations and museums. In the 1970s, he was an artist in residence at the Carter Whitehouse and was commissioned for works by Bill Clinton during his time as President. His works have been shown and featured at a number of US galleries.
This piece features a bright impressionistic scene captured inside a bustling market with people moving about a variety of goods. It’s a terrific representation of the skill and subject matter associated with Watson’s works.
Dimensions: The piece (including frame) measures approximately 23” by 19”.
Condition Notes: This piece is in great condition in a white brown and cream double and white frame. The white frame does have some minor signs of wear on the top left corner.
